Mr. Hanks’ comments reflected a mindset typical of that emanating from Hollywood, a flippant, knee-jerk and knowing anti-Americanism that is long on moral judgment and short on facts.

For a man whose demeanor, appearance, and career history reflects much beyond that of a talented actor, Tom Hanks’ recent statements have served to merely reaffirm the revisionist nature of the Hollywood A-list. Here’s to hoping that his newest work - HBO’s The Pacific - demonstrates more historical accuracy than unabashed ignorance.
